Our Beliefs About Individuals
Transcend’s foundational belief is that people are infinitely capable and have most of the answers to their questions within themselves. Therefore, the role of the coach is to provide a safe environment to explore these answers, ask provocative questions that will access or elicit those answers, and facilitate a process that clients may use to reach their goals.
Our foundation is built on Appreciative Inquiry, building on the things that are working well, acknowledging that there may be some areas that require improvement. Clients are encouraged to state their goals in terms of moving toward something, rather than moving away from something they don’t want.
Bringing things to the conscious level creates awareness which is necessary to create change. We can not change something that we are not conscious of. To change we need to create new habits and reinforce new behaviours. Research has shown that a change in habits or beliefs requires sustained effort and attention.
Every person is accountable to himself or herself. The coach plays a role of holding the client accountable, but only to the actions that the client has determined to be important. Transcend coaches believe that everyone has choices and that it is the client's responsibility to make choices for him or her self.
We believe that there is no ONE right answer, rather that there are many right answers. The right answer at any given time is one that is the best choice given the knowledge and information available.
